OpenAI, the company that developed ChatGPT, and Kakao, the corporation that owns the most popular messaging app in Korea, have just announced a strategic cooperation plan to develop artificial intelligence (AI) products specifically for the Korean market.
According to an announcement from Kakao, the company will integrate OpenAI technology into its product ecosystem to enhance user experience and expand AI applications in various fields.
The partnership was announced at a press conference in Seoul, attended by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Kakao CEO Chung Shina.
OpenAI head Sam Altman was also asked about the possibility of OpenAI investing in South Korea’s AI computing center project. He confirmed that the company is “actively considering” participating in the project, opening up opportunities for deeper collaboration in the technology sector in the country.
In addition, Sam Altman emphasized that many Korean companies will play an important role in the Stargate data center project ecosystem. However, he also affirmed that discussions on cooperation are still ongoing and he could not disclose further details.
OpenAI's partnership with Kakao marks a major step in the company's expansion strategy in Asia, and reflects the rapid growth of AI in a variety of areas, from communication to high-performance computing.
