On the days leading up to the Lunar New Year of At Ty 2025, reporters from Lao Dong Newspaper went on a field trip to Lo Da Bridge in Vi Thuy District, Hau Giang Province, where workers constructing the Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway were still working hard, making an important contribution to the construction of traffic infrastructure.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Vinh - Deputy Executive Director of Truong Son Nam Department (Truong Son Corporation) - said that the unit arranged 20 construction teams, including 15 bridge construction teams and 5 road construction teams, with about 300 employees.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Vinh added that the construction unit of 20km of highway with 20 bridges has reached over 65% of the contract value. Currently, 18 bridges have completed the installation of girders, and all bridges will be completed by the end of March 2025 at the latest. Regarding the route, the company has filled 90% of the load and paved 500m of asphalt concrete.
Regarding the construction work during Tet, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Vinh said that the unit has 4 bridge locations that must be worked during Tet with items such as pouring concrete on the bridge deck, installing beams, and 2 locations that need to be filled with sand and loaded with rocks with a workforce of about 150 people.
"To encourage the workers' spirit, in addition to the 200% and 300% salary increase according to regulations, the unit also organizes Tet meals and gives gifts to the workers," said Mr. Vinh.
As a worker who has been working on the project for more than a year, Mr. Vo Van Son (46 years old, Vi Thuy district, Hau Giang province) shared that compared to civil construction, working on the highway is much harder because of being constantly exposed to the sun and the pressure of progress. However, in return, the job here has a good salary and regular work every day, thanks to which he has more motivation to stick with the project throughout the past time.
“The Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway is expected to be completed by the end of this year, which makes me and the workers feel proud to have contributed a small part to the key project of the country in general and the Mekong Delta in particular,” Mr. Son happily said.
At IC4 intersection through Binh Thanh commune, Phung Hiep district, Hau Giang province, the construction site seems to "never sleep" because of the continuous sound of machinery operating day and night.
Mr. Thai Ba Trinh - technical officer of Construction Corporation No. 1 - said that the contractor responsible for construction from Km34+100 to Km38+980 is mobilizing crushed stone for loading, with about 40 workers working each shift.
On the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025, the unit will organize 3 construction projects including gathering loaded rocks on the main route, IC4 intersection and bridges - culverts to ensure the project is completed by the end of 2025 as required.
However, Mr. Thai Ba Trinh said that the source of materials is still difficult, because the sand mining license will expire in February, at which time the unit needs to increase the amount of stone for loading.
My Thuan Project Management Board (investor) informed that up to now, the construction output of the two component projects has reached 58%, disbursed 6,342/6,351 billion VND (reaching 99%).
Regarding the construction plan for Tet, most contractors will work throughout Tet at the construction site. However, material mines, transport units, and suppliers will be off for 3 days including December 29 and January 1-2 (Lunar calendar). In this situation, to ensure the project's progress, construction units have worked overtime, increased shifts in the days before Tet, increased the capacity of gathering materials and supplies to the staging area to carry out construction during Tet, and at the same time completed the road section not affected by the source of materials.
The Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway was started in January 2023, with a length of more than 110km, with a total investment of more than VND 27,500 billion. The project is divided into 2 component projects including the Can Tho - Hau Giang section (more than 37km long), reaching 64% and the Hau Giang - Ca Mau section (more than 73km long), reaching 55%.
