OpenAI has just adjusted some senior leadership positions and brought a familiar face back to lead the enterprise business segment, in the context that the company aims to accelerate competition in the AI market by 2026.
According to The Information, OpenAI has appointed Barret Zoph to lead the development of AI products for corporate customers. This move shows that the company is prioritizing consolidating its business segment, which is considered an important growth engine in the coming time.
Mr. Zoph has just returned to OpenAI after leaving Thinking Machine Labs - an AI startup founded by Ms. Mira Murati, former co-founder of OpenAI. Previously, from September 2022 to October 2024, Mr. Zoph held the position of Vice President in charge of AI model development and optimization. This return, he takes on a completely new role, focusing on expanding corporate customers.
OpenAI launched ChatGPT Enterprise in 2023 and said it currently has more than 5 million business users, with large customers such as SoftBank, Target and Lowe's. However, the company's market share in this segment is showing signs of shrinking as competitors accelerate.
According to a report by investment fund Menlo Ventures released in December 2025, Anthropic is leading the enterprise AI market with about 40% of the market share using large language models. Meanwhile, OpenAI's market share decreased from about 50% in 2023 to 27% by the end of 2025. Google also recorded a slight increase with Gemini products for businesses.
Faced with increasingly fierce competition, OpenAI Chief Financial Officer Sarah Friar said that business growth will be the focus of the company in 2026. Recently, OpenAI also announced the expansion of a multi-year partnership with ServiceNow, allowing customers of this platform to directly access OpenAI's AI models.
