Artificial intelligence company OpenAI has just announced the acquisition of AI security startup Promptfoo, a move to enhance security capabilities for AI agent systems that are developing rapidly in the business environment.
According to an announcement posted on OpenAI's blog, Promptfoo's technology will be integrated into OpenAI Frontier, the company's enterprise platform for automated AI agents.
These are artificial intelligence systems capable of performing many digital tasks that previously required human intervention.
In recent years, AI agents are expected to help significantly increase work productivity when they can automatically handle tasks such as searching for information, analyzing data or coordinating processes.
However, the rapid development of this technology has also raised concerns about security, especially when AI systems can access sensitive data or operate important business processes.
Promptfoo was established in 2024, with the goal of building tools to help businesses check security vulnerabilities in large-language (LLM) models.
The company develops many testing tools and open source code libraries that allow assessing the safety of AI systems against attacks or data manipulation.
According to data from PitchBook (a company providing financial data, investment information and market analysis), Promptfoo has raised about 23 million USD in investment capital since its establishment and was valued at 86 million USD after the most recent funding round in July 2025. The value of the deal with OpenAI is not disclosed.
OpenAI said that after integrating Promptfoo's technology, their AI agent platform will be able to automatically perform "simulation attacks" to check the security level of the system.
This technology also helps assess the working processes of AI agents, monitor operations to detect risks and support businesses in meeting security compliance requirements.
In addition, OpenAI said they plan to continue developing Promptfoo's open source products to help the programming community and businesses check and improve the safety of AI applications.
This deal is seen as a new step by OpenAI to strengthen business confidence in automated AI systems, which are predicted to play an important role in the future of artificial intelligence technology.
