Hanoi People's Committee on March 10th announced information about this year's public high school 10th grade entrance exam.
Accordingly, the entrance exam to 10th grade high school now has many new expected points including:
Removing the condition of permanent residence (permanent residence registration when registering for public high schools as every year). Students who only need to reside in Hanoi can register for admission to public high schools according to the policy of non-administrative admission, increasing learning opportunities for students, and promoting equal and fair education.
Abolishing the admission area. Students are allowed to register for a maximum of 3 aspirations at any time to ensure they are suitable for the capacity and conditions of students/parents, increasing the chances of admission according to aspirations.
Regarding enrollment methods, public high schools apply the form of entrance exams; private high schools, vocational education and continuing education centers, and vocational education institutions apply the form of admission consideration.
Previously, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training announced Foreign Language as the 3rd exam subject in the 10th grade public high school entrance exam.
Candidates register to take the exam in one of the following languages: English, French, German, Japanese, Korean (candidates are allowed to register to take a foreign language other than the foreign language they are studying at the lower secondary school).
The Foreign Language exam is in the form of objective multiple-choice, the exam time is 60 minutes; there are many exam codes in one exam room, ensuring the principle: 2 adjacent candidates do not match the exam code; candidates take the exam on the Multiple-choice Answer Sheet; the results of the candidate's exam on the Multiple-choice Answer Sheet are graded using computer software.
The exam consists of questions suitable for the required outcomes of the subject and the objectives of lower secondary school under the 2018 General Education Program, mainly within the 9th grade program of lower secondary school.
The entrance exam to 10th grade public high schools is always a highly competitive exam, attracting special attention from parents, students and society.
In the 2025-2026 school year, Hanoi organizes exams in three subjects including Mathematics, Literature and Foreign Language, with the participation of more than 102,000 candidates.
