The design of the Galaxy S series has not changed much in recent years. However, the Galaxy S25 is expected to bring a new look. According to a source from December 2023, Ilhwan Lee - a former Mercedes-Benz designer and currently Head of Design at Samsung MX, is reshaping the Galaxy brand to bring a "fresh" feel.
Samsung is expected to continue using titanium for the Galaxy S25 Ultra version, similar to the Galaxy S24 Ultra. According to leaks, the Galaxy S25 Ultra will be lighter than the previous version and more compact, weighing around 219 grams, compared to 232 grams of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The screen size is expected to remain at 6.8 inches, but the screen bezels may be smaller.
Samsung has typically kept prices stable across its Galaxy S lineup, especially the base and Plus versions. Over the past three years, the base and Plus versions of the Galaxy S22, S23, and S24 have all been priced at $799 and $999, respectively.
However, the Galaxy S24 Ultra has increased its price by $100, from $1,199 to $1,299, although the storage capacity remains the same. This has led many to speculate that the Galaxy S25's price will not change much compared to its predecessor, especially for the basic and Plus versions.
With the Galaxy S25, many predict that Samsung will switch to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which is expected to be announced in October 2024. However, it is also possible that Samsung will introduce additional MediaTek chips for some other regions. If using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, the Galaxy S25's performance will be significantly improved, with speeds up to 4GHz, compared to the 3.3GHz of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. In addition, the Galaxy S25 Ultra will likely get a RAM upgrade from 12GB to 16GB, while the basic and Plus versions will likely increase to 12GB of RAM.
The Galaxy S25 is expected to come with Android 15 and One UI 7. Samsung has also committed to four years of software updates, which will apply to the entire S25 series.
In terms of cameras, the Galaxy S25 Ultra will likely continue to use a 200-megapixel main sensor and a 50MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom. The novelty may come from upgrading the 3x telephoto camera from 10MP to 50MP, along with upgrading the ultra-wide camera to 50MP. A source from June 2024 shows that Samsung will use a 50MP sensor for the S25 and S25 Plus versions, similar to the Galaxy S24.
As for the battery, Samsung is testing a new battery stacking method that increases capacity in a smaller space. While the Galaxy S25's battery capacity may remain the same at 4,000mAh for the base model and 5,000mAh for the Ultra, the use of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip should see a significant improvement in battery life. However, the base Galaxy S25 may not support 45W fast charging like the Plus and Ultra models, but will stick to the 25W charging standard that has been used for the past six years.
