On September 9, in Hanoi, the Institute for Space and Underwater Technology Research (Hanoi University of Science and Technology) and Vietnam Weather Corporation (PV GAS) officially launched the PV GAS 2025 UAV Cup Innovation Contest with the theme "Homeland's Sky Area".
Speaking at the information meeting, Associate Professor, Dr. Han Trong Thanh - Deputy Director of the Institute for Space and Underwater Technology Research - said that in recent years, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) technology has been developing strongly, becoming one of the fields with the most widely applied potential in the era of Industry 4.0.
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Han Trong Thanh - UAV systems today not only serve entertainment purposes but also play an important role in many fields such as smart agriculture, environmental monitoring, natural resources and energy for automatic delivery, search and rescue, national defense - security and especially in green technology solutions for sustainable development.
In the context of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation. Vietnam has a great opportunity to make a breakthrough in domestic science and technology development.
Recognizing that trend, at the same time, in order to arouse creativity and promote the movement of scientific and technical research in students, the Institute of Space and Underwater Technology Research - Hanoi University of Science and Technology in coordination with Vietnam Weather Corporation - JSC (PV GAS) and related units to organize the launch of the PV GAS 2025 UAV Cup Creative Contest with the theme "Homeland's Sky Area".
With the theme "Homeland's Sky", PV GAS 2025 UAV Cup is designed as a highly applicable - creative academic playground for students from high school, technical intermediate, college to university nationwide.
Associate Professor, Dr. Han Trong Thanh said that the competition aims to create opportunities for students to apply the knowledge they have learned in designing, assembling, programming and operating UAVs in a competition environment. Develop systematic thinking, the ability to handle real situations, team spirit and tactical skills.
At the same time, it encourages a safe, smart UAV model that can be applied in agriculture, logistics, environmental monitoring, rescue and relief. Orient, detect and nurture high-quality human resources in the field of UAV technology, serving strategic goals of green technology and national digital transformation.
According to the Organizing Committee, the contestants are students with a passion for UAV technology; a maximum of 32 teams nationwide, each team has 3-5 members and 1 lecturer. The contest consists of 4 stages: Pre-scrutiny, technical assessment, qualifying round and national final (held directly in Hanoi in December 2025).
The team must use a combination of two types of UAVs in the same competition system: Automatic reconnaissance UAVs (search, collect data) and operating UAVs (overcoming obstacles, receiving energy, transporting to the correct simulation location).
The competition simulates practical tasks such as energy reception, emergency transportation and clean energy supply in smart cities, requiring a combination of technical design, control tactics and teamwork capability.
The prize structure of the contest includes 1 First prize worth 200 million VND; 1 Second prize worth 100 million VND; 1 Third prize worth 80 million VND and 5 Encouragement prizes, each prize worth 30 million VND.
In addition to material value, the contest is also an opportunity for students to approach businesses, researchers and investors, contributing to promoting the "Made in Vietnam" UAV ecosystem.
