According to CNN, Family Center will allow parents to grasp detailed information about the people their children are interacting with on the app, without revealing the content of those conversations.
Parents have to create their own Snapchat accounts, and adolescents have to choose to participate, giving parents permission to use the feature.
Snap, a parent company of Snapchat, said Family Center was developed to help parents keep their children safe.
The feature is designed to reflect how parents interact with adolescents in the real world, where they know who their children are friends with, when they go out to meet friends, but not steal their childrens private conversations, the company added.
Since last year, the US Congress has questioned executives of social media companies such as Snapchat, Youtube, TikTok and Instagram about how they protect young people.
Political sources have raised concerns that social media platforms have been used to harm children and promote bad behavior.
In response, Jennifer Stout, VP of global public policy at Snap, said the company still has a lot to do and they are developing parental tools to help protect young users.
Snap said it plans to add more features to Family Center in the coming months. The tool can let parents see new friends that their children have added to the app.
Another feature allows the app to report to parents about accounts that may be interacting with their children. Younger users can also choose whether to agree to the Parents' notification application or not.
The company said it has consulted online safety experts on developing these features.
