With this new feature, players on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S can listen to music, podcasts or cookbooks from Spotify while playing games.
However, the program is currently only piloted in some countries and is only for Spotify Premium users. Eligible players will see a new Spotify tab appear in the main menu, allowing them to log in and access content from the settings menu or when the game is temporarily suspended.
At that time, they can choose a song, change the song, with a small icon displayed on the top of the screen.
Players can also turn off the game's default background music to replace it with a personal playlist on Spotify. However, Spotify notes that some songs are not yet supported in this integration.
This is considered a pilot in Spotify's ambition to expand the personalized audio experience to the gaming world. If successful, this model can be deployed more widely in the future, opening up opportunities to combine listening entertainment and e-sports interaction.
