On the morning of July 7, informing Lao Dong, Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC, Ministry of Science and Technology), after two auctions of the right to use the national domain name ".vn" with two characters, the market recorded 67 successful auctioned domain names, with a total value of 1.535 billion VND.
This result is about 2.3 times higher than the total starting price. In the first phase alone, 37 domain names were successfully auctioned with a value increase of about 2.7 times, while in the second phase, 30 domain names were successfully auctioned, with a total value nearly double the starting price.
Some domain names recorded notable bids such as ok. vn reaching 109 million VND, hi. vn reaching 60 million VND, f5. vn reaching 36 million VND and 3m. vn reaching 22 million VND. These are all short, easy-to-remember domain names, capable of building brands and suitable for many business models, digital platforms or online services.
According to the Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC), the auction results show that the domain name ".vn" is not only a website access address but has become an important digital asset. Domain names can be used synchronously on websites, email systems, communication platforms, sales and customer care, contributing to improving the level of recognition and reputation of businesses in the digital environment.
The auction also marks the implementation of new regulations of the 2023 Telecommunications Law on management, allocation and exploitation of Vietnam's Internet resources. According to regulations, the right to use the ".vn" domain name can be transferred, donated, contributed capital or inherited according to the provisions of law, thereby creating a legal corridor for domain names to be fully recognized for their economic value and brand value.
From the perspective of Internet resource management, auction is a public and transparent allocation mechanism for domain names with high scarcity. When value is established through competition in the market, domain name investment and exploitation are also gradually becoming more substantive.
However, according to VNNIC, the bidding price is not the final measure. The value of a domain name is only promoted when it is put into use to develop websites, services, content ecosystems or business platforms. Conversely, if it is only held without exploitation, Internet resources will not create full economic and social value.
In fact, the value of the domain name will increase along with the development of the brand it represents. When businesses use domain names to build products, expand sales channels and build trust with customers, the value of the domain name itself also increases over time.
According to VNNIC, the auction results show that the national domain name ".vn" has the same attractiveness as international domain names in terms of brand building ability. The difference is that ".vn" is associated with the Vietnamese market, creating an advantage in official presence and the trust of domestic users, especially for businesses operating in Vietnam or targeting Vietnamese customers.
In the coming time, VNNIC will continue to organize auctions for the right to use the ".vn" domain name as planned, ensuring the principle of publicity, transparency and compliance with legal regulations.
For the second auction in 2026, winning auction organizations and individuals must complete financial obligations no later than July 14, 2026, after the results are approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
