The launch of Sora - an artificial intelligence (AI) video creation application developed by OpenAI, is a big challenge for the world when it can create videos that make it difficult for viewers to recognize as fake. This free app quickly hit a record for downloads on the App Store, raising concerns about the authenticity of images and videos online.
Initially, users viewed Sora as an entertainment tool, creating humorous videos. However, this technology was quickly exploited to produce fake videos such as fabricated news, fake cases and personal defamation videos. According to Professor Ren Ng (University of California, USA): "We have to learn to suspect everything we see".
Not only caused a fever on social networks, Sora also made Hollywood angry because a series of user-generated videos showed signs of violating film copyright and characters. In response, OpenAI CEO Sam altman said the company will add a mechanism to allow copyright owners to control and make money from content used.
Sora also raises concerns that any video on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube Shorts can now be fake. Journalist Brian X. Chen said that after just one hour of testing, he was able to create fake accident videos for insurance fraud, or fake information with false content. Although OpenAI has attached watermarks and identification codes, many people can easily delete or edit them.
Lucas Hansen - technology expert - shared: "We are entering an era where no one anymore believes that video is all the truth". Although the technology still has some small errors, experts predict that AI will soon create perfect videos like real movies. As Professor Hany Farid once shared: "Social networks are now a landfill of fake information, and people are forced to learn to doubt what they see".
