In May, ByteDance filed for US trademark registration for Tiktok Music. If approved, TikTok Music will be released on both mobile devices and tablets. Users can buy, play, share, download songs and music albums.
Another outstanding feature of TikTok Music is that users can comment on music, songs, and albums, which has never appeared on Apple Music or Spotify. They can also create, edit, and upload photos as cover for playlists.
Many users are using TikTok to explore new music with weekly trends. The app also regularly makes trending songs a hit globally, or makes old songs a trend.
ByteDance seems to have prepared in advance to make way for the digital music platform competition. "Normally, a company of TikTok or ByteDance will only file a trademark registration for items they are seriously considering," said Josh Gerben, a lawyer at Gerben Law Firm.
Previously, in November 2021, ByteDance filed a similar registration for " Tiktok Music" in Australia. In 2019, the company launched the online music listening application Resso in India, Indonesia and Brazil.
The company had planned to use TikTok as a marketing tool for Resso in India before TikTok was banned in this market. Currently, Resso has a large number of users with millions of instalments.
