In a report released on February 7, the Norwegian Police Security Agency said that the Chinese hacker group Salt Typhoon exploited cybersecurity vulnerabilities to carry out espionage activities.
Norway is the latest country to confirm being attacked by the Salt Typhoon hacker group.
Salt Typhoon - a hacker group described by senior US national security officials as "a breakthrough threat of the times" - has been secretly attacking the networks of key infrastructure organizations globally for many years.
In October 2025, the Salt Typhoon group attacked a telecommunications company in Europe, infiltrating an internal network.
Reports show that Salt Typhoon is operating strongly globally, targeting key infrastructure such as telecommunications, government, defense and telecommunications networks in many different countries.
The target includes telecommunications providers in Canada and the United States, where this group is accused of eavesdropping on the communications of senior politicians.
