Ho Chi Minh City seeks new growth space from AI and DeepTech

NGUYỄN ĐĂNG |

Ho Chi Minh City is looking for new growth momentum from digital space, data, computing capabilities and AI, DeepTech (core technology).

On the morning of September 17, the Vietnam Software and IT Services Association (VINASA) in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology officially organized the Opening Ceremony of the Tech4Life 2026 International Exhibition and Conference.

With the theme "Technology elevates life", the event attracted the attention and participation of about 3,000 delegates who are business leaders, managers attending the exhibition and 3 conference sessions.

From "Digital Transformation" to "Digital Growth

Productivity paradox is present globally. According to Microsoft's Work Trend Index 2026 report, although 66% of individual users said that AI (artificial intelligence) helps them save time, only 19% of personnel are working in organizations capable of turning AI tools into practical business efficiency.

In Vietnam, the economic growth model based on labor intensity, cheap processing and resource exploitation has completed its historical mission and reached the limit. Facing the pressure to maintain growth momentum above 10%, Ho Chi Minh City determines that it cannot just "optimize" the old space.

Sharing at the event, leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology said that the new growth space is not only in land but also in digital space, data, computing capacity and airspace.

According to this leader, Ho Chi Minh City clearly identifies science and technology, innovation with AI and DeepTech as the vital driving force to restructure 4 strategic economic pillars, including: A new international financial center, a smart logistics ecosystem, high-tech manufacturing and low-level economic opening.

DeepTech goes into the real problem

At Tech4Life 2026, core technology is introduced not only from a research perspective but also associated with specific business problems.

In the field of logistics and seaports, Vietnam processes more than 24 million TEUs of goods each year, associated with 1,000 billion USD of goods transaction value. A Gemadept representative said that one of the current bottlenecks lies in fragmented data.

Gemadept has digitized the entire delivery process through TOS and AutoGate systems, while applying Digital Twin and AI Vision in port operation coordination. According to the business, these solutions help reduce about 30% of vehicle waiting time. The business also put into operation an electric barge ecosystem on the Binh Duong - Cai Mep route, about 180 km long, aiming to reduce emissions in logistics.

In the financial field, MISA introduces the MISA Lending solution, exploiting data from invoices, accounting and cash flow in the ERP ecosystem to assess risks in real time. This approach aims to support small, medium-sized enterprises and household businesses to access credit faster, with the recommended approval time being within one day without being completely dependent on traditional collateral.

In high-tech manufacturing, Constantia Vietnam demonstrates a factory model applying in-line cameras and IoT with a operating speed of 300 m/min. Data from the line is used to detect surface errors, control quality and optimize energy, forming a cycle from observation, analysis to action and improvement.
