Japan uses AI and robot technology to operate at ASIAD 20

Japan strengthens technology application in the operation of ASIAD 20 in Aichi-Nagoya

According to Japanese newspapers, the technical system is built not only to support competition but also to connect venues with international media and fans.

One of the new solutions being applied is VR virtual reality technology with a resolution of up to 16K. The Nagoya government has tested the VR camera system in cycling events. This technology allows recreating competition images with high detail, helping viewers to re-observe developments from more visual angles.

Backstage, the Asian Games Information System (AGIS) plays a central role in data management. This platform supports the collection, testing and distribution of competition results to media agencies. Data from multiple locations is centralized to ensure information is processed and provided quickly and accurately.

AI is also directly incorporated into the news production process. JGC Parallel Technologies Corporation will deploy a system capable of processing achievement data and automatically creating news content. Parameters, results and records can be converted into text in just a few seconds, thereby shortening the time to bring information to the public.

In addition to competition venues, the technology is also applied in transportation and security. From the beginning of 2026, Nagoya has been testing a self-driving guided robot integrated with generative AI at Sakae station, assisting passengers in finding directions and voice communication.

Security partner ALSOK also prepared a multi-layered protection system, combining professional personnel with digital solutions, including AI avatar testing to guide tourists.

In parallel with the above platforms, high-density WiFi networks, point-to-point connections, Bluetooth, wireless cameras and dedicated data transmission devices are deployed to maintain communication between competition areas.
