China leads the commercialization of human-shaped robots

Businesses from China have played a key role in promoting the large-scale development of the human-shaped robot industry.

Research from Counterpoint Research shows that in 2025, human-shaped robot revenue for the first time exceeded 500 million USD, with more than 300 operating businesses. Among them, all three leading businesses are from China: Agibot, Ubtech and Unitree. They accounted for 56% of the industry's global revenue last year.

Headquartered in Shanghai, Agibot achieved revenue of over 140 million USD in 2025, ranking first globally. The company has deployed and invested on a large scale in many fields, including entertainment and performance; services and guidance; data production; and smart manufacturing. Unitree from Hangzhou and Ubtech from Shenzhen ranked second and third respectively, also typical enterprises for artificial intelligence innovation in their respective cities.

With a pioneering and outstanding role in commercializing humanoid robots globally, the key to the success of these 3 businesses comes from many factors. First, they have a diverse product portfolio and mass production capacity. Second, they have superior capabilities in both hardware and software.

For example, Unitree continuously consolidates its technological advantages in the field of motion control, based on the G1 platform, Unitree has further improved the movement efficiency of robots. Recently, Unitree has also participated in the open source race for AI brain modeling.

Agibot is one of the few startups in human-shaped robotics that takes the realization of physical artificial intelligence (Physical AGI) as its core strategy.

In 2025, the application of humanoid robots shows a diverse trend. Currently, entertainment and performance, data production, smart manufacturing, services and guidance, warehousing and logistics are industries that use humanoid robots the most and this trend will take place in the next 1-2 years.

According to research on humanoid robots by Counterpoint Research, these sectors accounted for 26%, 22%, 17%, 15% and 6% of global humanoid robot sales revenue in 2025, respectively.

For example, human-shaped robots have appeared on the Lunar New Year Gala stage in China for two consecutive years, attracting great public attention. In 2025, entertainment and performance became the largest revenue-generating application field.

On the one hand, the performance ability of humanoid robots continues to improve with increasingly diverse topics, but on the other hand, with the development of mobility and emotional interaction, the purpose of robot performances is shifting from merely technical performance to artistic performance. This field is expected to remain the main focus for the commercial use of humanoid robots in 2026.

At an important time when the humanoid robot industry is moving towards mass production, Chinese humanoid robot businesses have shown strong technological and commercial innovation capabilities, leading the global commercialization process," Counterpoint Research shared.

Counterpoint Research forecasts that global human-shaped robot hardware sales will reach 2.9 billion USD by 2027, with service and software revenue reaching about 1.5 billion USD respectively.
