Calories
Dr. Pramod Tripathi, Founder of Freedom From Diabetes Health Center (India) – said that calories are units of energy provided by food. They measure the energy content of food and are essential for the body's functions, growth and maintenance. Calories are expressed in kilocalories (kcal).
When you eat, food provides calories that help your body function, from basic activities like breathing and digestion to physical activities.
The important difference is that calories are a measure of energy, while nutrients are specific components found in foods that provide energy or support bodily functions.
Nutrients
Nutrients are substances in food that are essential for growth, maintenance, and health. They provide energy, build or repair tissues, and regulate body functions.
Nutrients include:
Protein: Helps build and repair body tissue.
Carbohydrates: Provide energy for the body.
Fat: Provides energy, aids in vitamin absorption and protects organs.
Vitamins: Support metabolism and maintain body functions.
Minerals: Essential for functions such as bones, muscles and the nervous system.
Water: Sustains life and supports metabolism.
Note
According to Dr. Pramod Tripathi, balancing nutrients and calories is very important for a healthy diet.
Focus on whole, unprocessed foods, including a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables, and choose lean protein sources (poultry, fish, beans). Always choose whole grains over refined grains.
However, Mr. Pramod Tripathi also advises that you should ensure that you consume healthy fats (nuts, seeds, avocados) in moderation. At the same time, limit sugary drinks, processed meats and fried foods.
