According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. BS Bui Thi Nhung (Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Nutrition Association, Head of the Nutrition Department of Sun Hospital), in addition to maintaining a healthy diet, people with high blood pressure also need to avoid some eating habits that can make blood pressure difficult to control.
1. Eating too salty
This is one of the common mistakes in people with high blood pressure. Consuming too much salt can cause blood pressure to rise and increase the risk of cardiovascular complications.
Patients should limit processed foods, pickled foods, canned foods and seasoning too much in meals.
2. Eat plenty of saturated fat and cholesterol-rich foods
People with high blood pressure should not regularly use foods high in saturated fat or cholesterol such as greasy fried foods, animal organs or fatty meat.
Maintaining a diet high in green vegetables, while reducing saturated fat, will contribute to protecting the cardiovascular system and supporting blood pressure control.
3. Maintain a reasonable weight
Overweight and obesity are one of the factors that make it more difficult to control blood pressure.
Therefore, patients need to avoid eating too much energy and maintain a reasonable weight through a balanced diet combined with regular exercise.
4. Avoid laziness to exercise and alcohol and beer abuse
Besides diet, lifestyle also directly affects blood pressure. According to experts, patients should limit alcohol and beer, and increase physical activity suitable for their physical condition.
Lack of exercise or using a lot of alcoholic beverages can reduce the effectiveness of blood pressure control.
5. Avoid ignoring blood fat disorder control
According to experts, people with high blood pressure need to combine blood lipid control through a reasonable diet, limiting foods rich in cholesterol and saturated fat.
This is an important factor in helping to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and improve the effectiveness of high blood pressure treatment.
