This is considered the largest investment in expanding operations in 12 years of operation in Vietnam, aiming to triple revenue by 2030.
According to Mr. Tezuka Daisuke, General Director of Aeon Vietnam, in the next two months, Aeon Vietnam will open three large shopping centers in Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa and Quang Ninh. In which, Aeon Hai Duong (Thach Khoi ward, Hai Phong) will officially open at the beginning of next month, with an investment capital of nearly 1,200 billion VND, scale of 35,700 m2.
Aeon Vietnam expects to open 5 new shopping centers in 2026, the most in 12 years of retail operation in Vietnam. "This is our fastest opening speed in the Vietnamese market to date," Aeon Vietnam's leader affirmed.
Aeon opened its first shopping center in Vietnam in 2014 and in the first 10 years, this unit only launched 8 shopping and shopping centers, focusing on major cities. The pace of opening new shopping centers has only gradually increased since 2024, and reached the highest level this year.
Previously, Nikkei said that Aeon divested its entire business in Thailand to focus on Vietnam.
According to Aeon Vietnam's leaders, the Vietnamese market still has a lot of room for the Japanese retail group to develop, so it is expected to allocate 60% of the total investment capital in Southeast Asia to the Vietnamese market. In addition, the retailer also mobilized human resources from Japan to support, and at the same time expand payment services, lending, cinemas... For the supermarket model alone, they plan to open up to 300, an increase from the current 40 mark.
In 2025, Aeon Vietnam achieved revenue of 624 million USD, 2.5 times higher than the figure of the previous 6 years. By 2030, they expect revenue to triple, and profit to quadruple, moving towards becoming the number one retailer in this country in the next decade.
To date, the Japanese retail giant has 25 shopping centers, general stores, 40 supermarkets, 71 specialized stores, and 182 convenience stores in Vietnam. This group also participates in the pharmaceutical retail segment, with the opening of 2 pharmacies in Ho Chi Minh City.
