A big step forward in localizing railway technology

At the VRT &CON 2025 International Exhibition and Conference on Modern Railway Technology held from November 12 to 15 at the National Exhibition Center (VEC), Vinh Hung Trading, Consulting and Construction Joint Stock Company signed a Memorandum of Understanding on strategic cooperation with two leading European corporations, Vossloh (Germany/France) and Maccaferri (Italy). This is considered an important milestone, bringing Vietnamese mechanical enterprises closer to the goal of localizing railway technology and equipment.

Accelerating technology localization

Established in 2006, Vinh Hung operates in three core areas: Trade - Production - Construction. After nearly 20 years of development, the enterprise has affirmed its position as a leading unit in providing technology products and solutions for the construction of transport infrastructure. In 2024, Vinh Hung will become the first and only mechanical transport enterprise to be awarded the title of "Vietnam National Brand" by the Government.

Currently, Vinh Hung is the only Vietnamese enterprise with the capacity to synchronously produce many infrastructure products such as bridge bearings, expansion joints, anti-noise walls, steel structures, etc., and successfully export to Asia and the Americas. Joining hands with leading European corporations is the next step on the journey to improve technological capacity, mastering production processes according to international standards.

The signing ceremony took place within the framework of VRT &CON 2025 - the first international event in the railway industry in Vietnam, chaired by the Ministry of Construction, in coordination with the Vietnam Railway Authority and Vietnam Railway Corporation. The event attracted many large enterprises in the infrastructure sector, recognizing special attention to the national railway modernization process.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Tran Thien Canh - Director of the Vietnam Railway Authority - emphasized: "Relway is one of three strategic breakthroughs that need investment. To realize this goal, businesses need to have the capacity to transfer and master technology. Vinh Hung's cooperation with international partners is a clear demonstration of the policy of encouraging localization of production, while creating a premise for Vietnamese enterprises to participate deeply in the global railway industrial value chain."

According to the signing minutes, Vinh Hung - Vossloh - Maccaferri will coordinate research, technology transfer and railway equipment production right in Vietnam, aiming for products that meet European standards but are produced at Vinh Hung Factory.

The biggest goal is to optimize costs, shorten the supply chain and more importantly, to enhance the technical autonomy of the Vietnamese railway industry.

Mr. Eckhard Koeppen - Vice President in charge of Asia - Oceania market business of Vossloh - commented: "Vinh Hung converges all the factors to become a strategic partner" from market understanding, management capacity to the ability to master production. We are committed to working together in the long term to build localized capacity, thereby realizing the development goal of the Vietnamese railway industry.

Vietnamese enterprises reach the global value chain

Mr. Vo Ta Luong - General Director of Vinh Hung Trading, Consulting and Construction Joint Stock Company - shared: "The signing of today's Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Cooperation is an important step forward, affirming the position and vision of Vietnamese enterprises in the journey of international integration. We believe that, through cooperation with leading European corporations such as Maccaferri and Vossloh, Vinh Hung will have the opportunity to access advanced technology, gradually form domestic production capacity and actively contribute to the goal of modernizing the Vietnamese railway industry.

According to experts, the cooperation of Vinh Hung - Vossloh - Maccaferri shows that Vietnam has a business capable of receiving in-depth technology transfers in the capital field that requires absolute accuracy. The production of railway equipment according to European standards in Vietnam not only helps reduce import costs and proactively increase supply, but also creates a foundation for Vietnam to participate in the global supply chain in the future.

In the context that Vietnam is preparing to implement many large projects such as the North-South high-speed railway, urban railway in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the process of localizing equipment is extremely important. When the value chain is formed domestically, the railway industry will have the opportunity to shorten progress, save costs, improve operational and maintenance capacity.

With nearly two decades of steadfast pursuit of the mission of localizing technology, Vinh Hung is gradually affirming its pioneering role in the field of transport mechanics. Strategic cooperation with Vossloh and Maccaferri opens a new chapter - a chapter of deeper integration, mastering technology and enhancing the position of Vietnamese enterprises in the international railway infrastructure industry.
