According to the storm forecast from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), tropical storm Ragasa (Philippine name: Nando, Japanese typhoon number: 18) could rapidly strengthen.
Typhoon Ragasa is currently about 1,115 km east of the capital Manila (Philippines) and moving west at a speed of 19 km/h. The highest waves were recorded at about 4.9 m.
In the next 24 hours, Ragasa is forecast to move slowly in the west-northwest direction. The storm will accelerate slightly and turn northwest over the next 12 hours, and is likely to return west-northwest.
It is forecasted that in the next 3-4 days, Ragasa will gradually strengthen in a favorable environment, possibly even reaching a rapid intensification phase, with a maximum intensity of 215-230 km/h - super typhoon level.
Typhoon Ragasa will weaken as it interacts with the complex terrain of Northern Luzon (Philippines), Southern Taiwan (China) and the southeast coast of China.
Forecast models are currently quite consistent in the general northwest direction, with the possibility of the storm crossing the Luzon Strait.
In terms of intensity, the JTWC said the storm will reach its peak in the next 3 days. Some models even predict that the storm could reach 240-250 km/h.
People and tourists planning to visit coastal areas of the Philippines, southern China or other areas affected by the typhoon should pay attention to weather forecasts. Tuan follows local instructions to ensure safety.
