Risks from overeating
Holidays often come with sumptuous meals with many fried dishes, high in sugar and protein. However, uncontrolled eating can cause a series of problems such as bloating, indigestion, acid reflux and prolonged feeling of bloating.
According to Dr. Saswata Chatterjee - gastroenterology specialist at CK Birla Hospital, CMRI (India), a common condition after holidays is that many people eat continuously and overeat unhealthy foods. He said: "Eating a lot of fatty, sugary and salty foods in a short time will put great pressure on the digestive system.
In particular, the habit of skipping meals before to eat to make up for main meals may be counterproductive. When the stomach is empty for too long, the risk of increased acidity, heartburn, and post-eating discomfort will be higher.
Maintain balance to enjoy fully
To protect the digestive system, experts recommend maintaining a balanced diet even during holidays. Starting the day with a light snack such as fruit and oats helps control hunger and limit overeating in later meals.
Drinking enough water plays an important role, especially in hot weather conditions. Water helps support digestion, reduces the risk of constipation and limits increased stomach acid. Natural drinks such as coconut water should be prioritized, while sugary or caffeinated drinks should be limited.
Dr. Saswata Chatterjee emphasized: "Controlling portion sizes is a key factor. Eat slowly, divide portion sizes so that the body recognizes when you are full.
In addition, people should limit fried foods, late-night snacks and avoid lying down immediately after eating. Walking lightly after meals is a simple way to help support digestion effectively.
Maintaining scientific eating habits will help each person both enjoy their vacation and protect their long-term health.
