Starting from the couple's love for plants and grasses, and also wanting to have a green space to relax and a source of clean food for family meals, Ms. Trang started growing vegetables on the terrace.
Initially, it was just a few styrofoam boxes for testing, but over time, she gradually rearranged the space into a compact small garden, maximizing the area while still ensuring that the plants have enough light and development conditions.
To have a fresh rooftop vegetable garden like now, she had to learn in many groups to draw experience, especially experience in waterproofing and drainage.
Growing vegetables for nearly 4 years, with a limited area, she tries to choose the most suitable vegetable growing method for the house structure, avoiding cracks and breaks on the floor because the soil is too heavy, or irrigation water does not stagnate.

The garden is arranged in rows of styrofoam boxes and planting pots. The planting soil is mainly soil mixed with organic fertilizer, no chemicals are needed, enzymes are incubated from pineapple peel to control pests to help plants develop stably. Thanks to regular care, vegetables grow well, green and lush all year round.
According to Ms. Trang, growing vegetables on the terrace is not too complicated but requires persistent care. Every day, she spends some time watering, weeding, and checking for pests and diseases. In return, the family always has a source of fresh and clean vegetables for daily meals.

With the secret for the family to have enough vegetables to eat, which is to follow the rule of "seasonal food", rotating crops on time helps plants grow healthily, achieve high yields and minimize pests and diseases.
In the summer, she prioritizes heat-resistant vegetables such as water spinach, Malabar spinach, amaranth, sweet potato. When the weather is cold, she often switches to growing cabbage, kohlrabi, cauliflower, lettuce, tomatoes and vegetables.
She said: "Growing vegetables in winter, when the weather is cold, there are fewer caterpillars, planting anything is easy, just watering and fertilizing is enough and you can grow more delicious vegetables.

Not only bringing clean food, the overhead garden has also become a familiar relaxing place for the family after each working day. After finishing the main tasks, she often goes to the terrace to water plants, weed, and admire the lush green vegetable beds.

Sharing about her upcoming plans, Ms. Trang said that besides seasonal vegetables, she is continuing to optimize and expand the rooftop space to grow fruit trees, and at the same time develop more trellises for cucumbers, gourds, and pumpkins to increase yield and enrich family meals.
Currently, vegetables are basically usable enough, so I want to grow more plants that can climb trellises to take advantage of the space above. Both have more clean food and create a cooler green feeling for the rooftop," Ms. Trang shared.
