Need psychological readiness
In recent years, the trend of late marriage is increasingly popular among Vietnamese youth. Notably, many young people hesitate before making a marriage decision due to concerns about family responsibilities and especially psychological readiness.
Ms. Pham Thi Phuong (24 years old, Ninh Binh) said that she wants to have full preparation both financially and psychologically before entering a long-term relationship. According to her, around 30 years old is the time she thinks about getting married, when she is ready both materially and mentally.
“It's not just the psychology of being a wife but also the preparation for how to deal with problems arising in married life to maintain happiness and moreover, the psychology of being a mother,” Ms. Phuong shared.
Sharing the same thought, Ms. Nguyen Mai Quynh (26 years old, Nghia Do ward, Hanoi) believes that psychology is one of the important issues to prepare before marriage. Because married life is not just a story of two people as during dating, but also has a connection with both families. When getting married, everyone must be responsible to their partner and family.
No matter how comfortable my husband's family is, I think I must have certain maturity and responsibility. That is something I am not ready to marry at the moment. Therefore, my marriage age will be around 28-30," Ms. Quynh confided.
Understand yourself before getting married
According to Ms. Nguyen Hoang Anh - Psychological Consultant (Voice of Therapist Office) - the trend of late marriage is the result of many intertwined factors.
Young people today have more opportunities to study, develop their careers and experience life than previous generations. They prioritize building a career, exploring themselves and want to have a stable foundation before entering marriage. The perception of marriage has also changed.
If marriage was previously considered an almost mandatory milestone, now many people see marriage as an option. They want to find a truly suitable person instead of marrying just because they are old," Ms. Hoang Anh analyzed.

Besides, the increasing divorce rate, stories about domestic violence, adultery or marital pressure being widely shared on social networks also make many people more cautious.
Experts recommend that young people should understand themselves. That is to understand their needs, life values, strengths, weaknesses and how they react when there are conflicts. At the same time, pay attention to building communication skills, emotional management, conflict resolution, financial management and role division in the family.
Experts also emphasize taking care of physical, reproductive and mental health before marriage. In particular, it is also necessary to frankly discuss with your future partner about life views, children, finances, careers, families of both sides and expectations in marriage.
Marriage is not the destination of happiness, but it should also not become something that is delayed indefinitely because of fear. Good preparation is necessary, but what is more important is proper preparation. That is developing the ability to love, communicate, understand and accompany. When two people have a spirit of learning and are willing to grow up in the relationship, marriage will not be a "gamble", but a journey that can be built by initiative and responsibility," the expert emphasized.
