Experts guide parents to help children become confident and eager to learn

Bảo Châu |

We all want to raise our children to be smart, confident and successful children. But where to start? And what is the best way to raise children?

CNBC cited the research results of development psychologist Diana Baumrind as saying that there are 4 parenting styles, and parents can use one or more different methods depending on the time, situation and context. These four main styles include: Doi doan, Quyet, Nuong chieu, Lo la.

The best way to raise children

Research shows that whether or not raising children is good depends on a number of specific aspects such as: Education, social emotions and behavior.

While parents with authoritarian styles often expect a lot from their children, according to many experts, raising children in the style of a responsible parent is the best way to raise children. And the common characteristics of parents raising children in an authoritative way are: Meeting the emotional needs of their children, but also setting high standards for them; Regularly communicating and considering their children's thoughts, emotions and opinions; letting their children experience the consequences caused by them themselves, but using those opportunities to help their children reflect and learn; Increasing independence and theoretical skills; Participating heavily in their children's progress and development.

Studies have found that parents who teach their children authoritative behavior are more likely to nurture children who are confident in achieving academic success, have better social skills and are more capable of problem solving.

Instead of always coming to save their children like when parents were too busy, powerful parents allowed their children to make mistakes. This gives children the opportunity to learn and at the same time tells them that their parents will be there to support them.

raised children in an authoritative manner is especially helpful in dealing with conflicts, because the way we learn to deal with conflicts as young children plays a big role in how we deal with our losses or how resilient we are in life as adults.

For parents who are willing to let go, the solutions to conflicts often depend on the child. The child "won" and the parents "lost". This approach leads to more self- integratedness and less ability to self-adjust.

Of course, there are times when you need to discipline your children, but consider it a break from raising children. Continuous punishment will not really teach your child anything useful. And in most cases, punishment teaches children that the person with the most power will win, whether fair or not.

An example is given, when your son doesn't want to play soccer and says to you, "You don't want to because you think you're not good".

In response, a parent who is entertained may say: "Tuy it."

A parent carelessly said: " whatever you want... is your life".

A productive parent often says, "You have to do it. Father/mother don't want to hear another word from their child".

An influential parent said: "I understand that you don't want to go. But sometimes, trying to work that I don't like is the way to get better! ".

While parents who are powerful set limits and want their children to behave responsibly, they do not just blindly demand compliance. They communicate and discuss with their children, which can help inspire collaboration and teach them the reason behind the rules.

Raising children is an art

Although experts give the most praise to raising children in an authoritative way, it is important to note that using only one method does not always ensure positive results.

Raising children is not an accurate science. In many ways, it's more like art. The advice is to always love and understand, but also create boundaries. Don't just focus on punishment. Be supportive and truly listen to your child. Ask your child questions and try to understand everything from their perspective. Allow your child to participate in the decision-making process so that they can develop themselves and learn everything.

There is a difference between the style of raising children and the method of raising children. Parenting style is the emotional atmosphere in which you raise your child, and the practice of raising children is a specific action that parents apply in the process of raising their children.

In short, parents should act as good examples that you want your children to follow.
