Stroke girl with only 1% chance of living and miraculous recovery

DI PY |

"The Perfect Puzzle" in early 2025 is a touching story about the extraordinary determination in the battle between life and death of a girl who suffered a stroke.

Two special characters in the program, Mr. Nguyen Huy Thach and his daughter Nguyen Hoang Anh Thu. Together they write a touching journey, where love and resilience become the strength to overcome all challenges.

Nguyen Hoang Anh Thu - a 27-year-old girl, who studied Public Relations and Communications, experienced a major event when she had a stroke during a group meeting with her classmates 5 years ago.

Speaking to People's Artist Hong Van, Anh Thu recalled the moment she had a stroke: "It came quite suddenly. I was sitting in a group studying, then I fainted and lay on the ground."

At that time, her family faced a great shock. Mr. Huy Thach said: "When I went to the hospital, the doctors said that my child only had a 1% chance of living."

Although the doctor advised her to go home because of the severe damage to her cerebellum, the family still insisted on treatment. When she woke up, she could not speak or move, only communicating with her eyes, but Mr. Huy Thach always understood what his daughter wanted.

He said that when she was young, Anh Thu was a very quiet and introverted person. However, after the stroke, a drastic change occurred. Even though she was in a vegetative state, her fighting spirit surprised both doctors and nurses.

They saw her resilience through her medical indicators like her heart rate and health chart; she kept fighting, refusing to give up.

At that time, Mr. Huy Thach's wife was very miserable. Every time she came home and saw her child's clothes, she collapsed. Later, when Anh Thu got better and was brought home, she persevered in taking care of her child. Mr. Huy Thach also learned acupressure, helping his child gradually regain his memory and learn to write again from the beginning.

During the three years of recovery, despite times of self-doubt, Anh Thu persevered. She shared: “I thought, I’m still young, so let it be. I’ve already had a dream, I just keep dreaming, and so I got up.”

Every time she thought of giving up, her father reminded her: “Don’t give up.” Mr. Huy Thach was also moved to say that his daughter had expressed her gratitude to her parents many times in her own unique ways, as an affirmation of their great love and sacrifice.

In 2023, Anh Thu graduated from Van Lang University, marking an important milestone after a difficult recovery journey.

MC Hong Van expressed her admiration for Anh Thu's determination: "Hearing her father talk about Thu, I was very moved and admired her very much. Her will is so wonderful, so strong."

When asked about his wishes for his daughter, Mr. Huy Thach said: "I don't want much from Thu, I just want her to return to normal like other women, have a family, and support herself."

He also emphasized that in life, Anh Thu will have to continue her path without the support of her parents. “To do that, Thu must try, practice, and live like a normal person. To me, that’s all,” Mr. Huy Thach emotionally shared.
