A new study published in the Journal of Sexual Behavior shows that men often consider physical amenities more serious than emotional betrayal.
The study attracted 4,465 participants from Norway and the United States, focusing on psychological characteristics that affect sexual jealousy levels.
Scientists from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and Kansas State University have discovered that the more jealous men are, the more likely they are attracted to women, and possess four typical psychological characteristics.
These characteristics not only reflect gender identity, but are also related to childhood playfulness (how children often play games when they are young, reflecting both personality, interests and behavioral trends later on), thinking style and professional interests.
In the study, participants were asked to visualize situations where their partner was unfaithful and choose an emotional reaction: physical infidelity or emotional betrayal.
The results showed that 58% of gay men felt more hurt when their partner had an affair, while this number in women was only 31%.
Homosexual and bilateral men have similar reactions to women, showing that sexual jealousy depends a lot on attractive models, not just on masculinity.
Four main psychological characteristics:
Childhood toys: Children like to play tough games or quiet, nurturing games.
Thinking style: Often more systematic than focusing on emotions.
Household interests: Prioritize engineering or human-related fields.
gender identity: The level of male self- comprehension compared to others.
The combination of these four characteristics helps predict which men are most jealous, especially those who are attracted to women and less attracted to men.
For women, research shows that emotional betrayal still causes greater harm than physical amenities, even if they are highly masculine or attracted to other women. At the same time, the gap between men and women in jealousy level decreases with age.
These findings challenge the traditional view that men and women are completely different in psychology.
The gen thuong comes from the combination of biological, emotional and social factors, emphasizing the importance of psychological research in modern romantic relationships.
