Over the past few days, a clip of a little girl crying and begging her mother not to jump off a bridge in the middle of the night has been circulating on social media, attracting public attention.
The incident happened in Tien Lang district, Hai Phong. In the clip, the image of the little girl holding her mother's legs and kneeling down to try to stop her from committing suicide made viewers feel heartbroken.
Talking to Lao Dong reporter, Dr. Pham Thi Thuy - lecturer at the National Academy of Public Administration, Ho Chi Minh City branch, psychological consultant at the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Cultural House - said that the cases of mothers dragging their children to commit suicide that have occurred over the years are sad stories. However, we need to be careful when commenting on these stories, and not rush to assign any reason to them.
According to Dr. Pham Thi Thuy, the cause leading to this negative action can have 3 main possibilities.
"First, these mothers may have psychological disorders. Maybe the fathers and mothers themselves are having psychological problems, but they do not detect them early, allowing the condition to persist, to the point where they cannot control their bodies and emotions.
The second reason is that the mother who dragged her child to commit suicide may also have the mentality of wanting to take revenge on the person who caused them pain. There are many cases where the man is a gambler and abusive, the wife wants the child to commit suicide with her so that the husband will regret the mistake he made for the rest of his life. At that time, they were extremely resentful and chose a very negative solution.
The third reason is that the mother herself has her own problems, but she doesn't want her child to suffer without her in this world. However, there will still be many deeper, more complicated reasons."

A series of cases of parents committing suicide with their children have occurred over the years. Just because of psychological distress due to emotional conflicts, debt… fathers and mothers make negative choices.
Experts share shocking cases of parents committing suicide with their children, which are heartbreaking and regrettable stories.
However, such behavior stems from cognitive problems and needs to be promoted and educated to change. In addition, families need to sympathize, accompany, and help mothers overcome psychological barriers.
"The right to life is a basic human right, stipulated in international conventions and the Vietnamese Constitution. No one has the right to take the life of another person, including parents. Many parents think that they are the ones who gave birth to their children, so they have the right to decide their children's lives.
No one, including parents, has the right to decide the life of their children. Education and propaganda are needed to change this perception, so that each person not only protects their own life but also protects those around them," said Dr. Pham Thi Thuy.
