Common causes of vaginal dryness
V baguary dryness is a common condition in many women, but is still considered a "second" problem that is rarely discussed. Symptoms include itching, irritation, discomfort, and even pain during sex.
According to gynecologist Chetna Jain, infertility and reproductive health expert at Health Shots (India): "Vaginal dryness is not necessarily a sign of a dangerous disease, but is often caused by hormonal changes, medications, stress or unhealthy living habits".
One of the most common causes is estrogen decline. This often happens during menopause, after giving birth, or when breastfeeding. In addition, some medications such as anti-depressants, anti- histamine, and birth control pills can have side effects that reduce vaginal secretion.
Psychological factors also play an important role. Prolonged stress and anxiety can reduce stimulation signals from the brain, causing the body to not secrete enough lubricants. In addition, smoking, drinking a lot of alcohol or not drinking enough water also contribute to worsening the condition.
Natural solutions to increase vaginal secretion
Dry vaginal dryness can be completely improved with simple changes in diet and lifestyle:
Reasonable diet
Foods rich in Omega-3 such as fatty fish, flaxseeds and walnuts help improve blood circulation, supporting vaginal tissue.
Sources of vitamin E from almonds, spinach, and sunflower seeds help maintain moisture. A 2023 study published in the African Journal of Urology showed that vitamin E in the form of butter helps improve vaginal atrophy symptoms in postmenopausal women.
Soy foods contain phytoestrogen, a natural compound that has the same effect as estrogen, supporting hormonal balance.
Water berries such as watermelon, orange, and cucumber help keep the body hydrated, including the vaginal lining.
Lifestyle changes
Drink plenty of water to maintain natural moisture.
Manage stress with yoga, meditation or breathing exercises.
Quit smoking, limit alcohol to protect blood vessels and improve circulation.
Exercise regularly. Even walking or gently stretching can help balance hormones and increase vaginal secretion, Dr. Jain shared.
Avoid using cleaning products with fragrances or exfoliants as they can cause dry burning.
Other support measures
In addition to changing your diet and lifestyle, women can use aloe vera gel or coconut oil (if not allergic) as a temporary topical ointment. Over-the-counter vaginal moisturizers can also be used regularly.
In cases of prolonged dryness, especially related to menopause, doctors may recommend estrogen or hormone replacement therapy.
Dry vaginal discharge is a sensitive problem but should not be avoided. With proper care, women can significantly improve this condition, increase comfort and confidence in daily life as well as sex life.
