Ms. Kieu (33 years old) shared the story of a marriage full of hurts after 5 years of love from university and decided to get married with the belief in a stable home.
However, life after marriage quickly fell into financial crisis. Her husband's family once gave the couple 200 million VND as capital. When Ms. Kieu asked about the plan to use this money, her husband only answered superficially, even showing an uncomfortable attitude.
Not long after, she was shocked when her husband admitted that he had lost all 200 million VND due to securities investment. Not stopping there, he also borrowed more money from outside with high interest rates.
Faced with this situation, although her sister-in-law advised her to divorce early, Ms. Kieu still decided to stay because she wanted to maintain family happiness. She sold wedding gold for more than 100 million VND, borrowed everywhere to pay off debts for her husband.
After temporarily overcoming difficulties, she continued to borrow from the bank and both families to buy a house, hoping to start over. But when she just had her own home, her husband reported an additional debt of more than 300 million VND, also from securities investment.
To settle this debt, Ms. Kieu was forced to sell the newly bought house. However, the storm did not stop. Not long after that, her husband continued to announce a new debt of about 200 million VND. According to Ms. Kieu, the total amount of money she shoulded for her husband has reached 1 billion VND.
Successive upheavals caused Ms. Kieu to fall into a prolonged state of stress, gradually losing faith in marriage. Many times she thought about divorce but hesitated because she did not want her parents to be sad, especially when the family had just gone through upheavals from her brother's broken marriage.
During the marriage breakdown, the concern of a male colleague made Ms. Kieu have a moment of emotion. One time she took shelter from the rain, the two went to a hotel to rest temporarily. She affirmed that there was no matter beyond the limit between them and then took the initiative to book a car to go home.
However, the incident was still discovered by her husband. The husband confiscated the phone, loudly insulted her in the middle of the road and in front of his two children.
Not stopping there, he also asked her to sign a commitment with shocking terms such as giving up custody of the child and compensation from 100 to 200 million VND.
Although not accepting to sign this commitment, Ms. Kieu continued to endure because she felt remorse for her moment of disappointment. What made her exhausted was not only the financial burden but also the worry for the future and the fear of disappointing her parents.
Accompanying the character, psychologist Dr. To Nhi A believes that the biggest bottleneck in the story is the lack of transparency. According to experts, Ms. Kieu hiding her family's debts makes people only see the fault of adultery without understanding the whole situation.
I see that you are using many surrounding factors as a support to avoid making decisions for your life," said Dr. To Nhi A.
Experts advise that if choosing to continue the marriage, Ms. Kieu needs to establish clear legal and financial boundaries to protect herself. When trust has been damaged, specific commitments are necessary to avoid repeating the old spiral.
Closing the program, Ms. Kieu sent a message to women facing difficulties in marriage: don't let emotional voids make you fall into mistakes.
