Iranian ship attacked by submarine, at least 101 people missing

    At least 101 people are missing after a submarine attacked an Iranian ship, the Sri Lankan navy reported.

    In addition to the missing, 78 people were injured after a submarine attacked an Iranian ship off the coast of Sri Lanka, according to sources from the Sri Lankan Navy and the Sri Lankan Ministry of Defense.

    The Sri Lankan Navy sent a rescue team after receiving a distress signal from an Iranian ship sinking near Sri Lanka on March 4.

    Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath told Parliament that the incident occurred outside Sri Lanka's territorial waters.

    Local media reported that the ship reported an accident off the coast of Galle in southern Sri Lanka. Upon receiving the news, the Sri Lankan Navy sent a ship to rescue. The injured on the Iranian ship were taken to the hospital in Galle.

    According to Xinhua News Agency, the Iranian ship in distress is IRIS Dena. Local media reported that the ship belongs to the Iranian Navy.
