The character No Face from the animated film "Spirited Away" has become one of the most beloved images every Halloween.
However, few people know that this trend spread after a little girl created a social media fever with her unique disguise.
In 2016, the online community was delighted by a series of photos of Momo Lu - a 2-year-old girl - dressed as No-Face at her kindergarten's Halloween party.
What made these photos go viral was not only the impressive costumes, but also Momo's incredibly "in-character" expressions. According to her mother, Momo made many of her classmates cry out of fear, but she still kept her cold face and No-Face demeanor.
"The little girl brought a unique costume, her wish came true, so she was very happy," Momo's mother said.
Regarding the origin of the strange character, No Face is a special character in the animated film "Spirited Away" by director Hayao Miyazaki.
Despite being a faceless and quiet ghost, this character has won the hearts of the audience thanks to his innocent and adorable personality. His popularity is even on par with the two main characters Chihiro and Haku.
After the viral success of Momo, No Face became a popular choice for children's Halloween costumes because of many advantages such as being easy to prepare and apply makeup, being both adorable and mysterious, and suitable for the Halloween atmosphere.
By 2019, Momo - then 5 years old - continued to impress with new Halloween costumes. She became a real "hot face" (celebrity) with a fanpage with more than 220,000 followers.
For Halloween 2019, Momo chose to transform into Hanako-san - a female ghost character in Japanese legend, while her younger sister - Mie Mie - dressed up as the ghost Toshio from the horror film series Ju-on.
From a lovely moment of a 2-year-old girl, No Face has become a favorite Halloween symbol and a source of inspiration for many parents in choosing costumes for their children every Halloween.
