At an event, when asked about choosing a school for her child, Sam said that this is a story that many families with two languages are interested in. She herself has also considered many times between choices such as purely Vietnamese schools, international schools and Korean schools.
After a process of getting to know each other, Sam said that she tends to choose Korean schools for her two children. However, what she cares about is not whether that school is famous or has the best facilities.
Although that school is not too famous or has too good facilities, I still want to prioritize letting the two children learn about Korean - the language of their father" - Sam shared.
According to Sam, letting her children get acquainted with Korean first comes from the desire for the two children to be able to talk to their paternal family. She hopes that language will become a bridge to help her children communicate and connect more with family members.
Sam believes that Vietnamese is not too big of a problem for her two children, because this is a language used often in the family. "Vietnamese is already known at home to the two children, because everyone speaks Vietnamese, and Korean is not yet known," she said.
Therefore, instead of just relying on the school's reputation or facilities, Sam prioritizes an environment that can help children access a language that they currently do not have many opportunities to use at home.
Regarding English, Sam identifies this as the next priority in her two children's language learning process. She said that after considering the options, helping the children learn more Korean is what she wants to prioritize at the present time.
