The two words "Mom" burst out from a child with autism for many years

Da Nang - Although V could not say the two words "Mom" clearly, it was a positive sign in the long journey to regain a voice for an autistic child.

That is also the belief for parents in particular and the medical team in general to trust in the treatment method for children with autism spectrum disorder in Da Nang city and neighboring provinces.

"Shocked" because my child became autistic

N.N.H.V, 7 years old, was born into a family with a mother who is a teacher in Ha Tinh. Since birth, V was a chubby, lovely, and agile child, able to say single words, sometimes even a few words when he was only 10 months old. It was thought that V would continue to develop like that until he grew up, would go to school and play like his peers. But after his first birthday, his family discovered that he had many unusual signs: Gradually losing the words he had said before, not responding when called by name, withdrawing and not interacting with people, not being able to express his needs when necessary, making him irritable, throwing tantrums, screaming, running around uncontrollably...

Everyone was shocked and took the child to many places for examination and treatment, all of whom gave the diagnosis: Severe autism spectrum disorder with signs of language regression and other co-morbid disorders such as: Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, sensory integration disorder, behavioral disorder, severe prognosis, requiring immediate intervention.

The conclusions from the above doctors made the parents more worried and sought out local medical facilities for early intervention for V. However, after more than 2 years of continuous and persistent treatment, V's condition did not improve significantly. He still could not make sounds, could not do simple personal activities on his own, and could not understand familiar daily 1-step commands, along with increasing unwanted behaviors.

Burst out two sacred words: Mom!

This morning, taking her daughter to the Pediatric Acupuncture Room of the Hospital for acupuncture and treatment, V's mother could not hide her joy and happiness as she quickly hugged the female doctor who was treating her child and emotionally said: "Doctor, V can speak now! She can say the word "Mom" now!".

According to the patient’s family, when V was over 4 years old, through research and introductions from acquaintances, the family took V to Da Nang City for examination and treatment at the City Rehabilitation Hospital. Ms. H said: “I feel secure because this is a provincial specialized hospital that treats autistic children with more methods and more specialized doctors…”.

The person who is directly treating V - doctor Nguyen Luong Quynh Chau informed that basically, V's unwanted behaviors have completely reduced and his ability to understand has increased a lot compared to when he first entered the hospital.

Dr. Nguyen Van Dung - Director of Da Nang Rehabilitation Hospital added that at the beginning of the treatment, because he was not familiar with the environment and had to approach new methods that he had never had before, he showed some signs of resistance, screaming, and lack of cooperation, especially with the electroacupuncture method. However, after a short time using electroacupuncture, auricular acupuncture combined with other rehabilitation methods, V's condition improved significantly.

Seeing the positive improvements in their child, the family increasingly trusted traditional medicine methods and followed the treatment regimen recommended by the doctors.

Although the two words "Mom" that V said were not clearly pronounced, it was a positive signal, a motivation for the family to continue to persevere and for the hospital staff to believe in the methods being applied to treat autistic children.
