Episode 14 of "Steps into Life" focuses on the irreparable rifts of the couple Quan and Thuong after a series of family upheavals.
On the day her grandmother was discharged from the hospital after her mother Quan (Meritorious Artist Quach Thu Phuong) returned to her hometown to despise her family situation, Thuong could not help but blame herself for letting her worry at this age.
She told her grandmother to take care of her health, and affirmed that if she did not recover, she would be willing to quit her job to move back to her hometown to live with her grandmother permanently.
Immediately after that, Quan (Huynh Anh) came to see Thuong (Quynh Kool) hoping to salvage their relationship. Although Quan tried his best to explain and hold on, Thuong still maintained a cold attitude. She declared a decisive breakup and asked Quan not to bother and let go of her life.
Even when Quan still persistently begged, Thuong frankly warned that if he continued to come, she would pack up and move in to cut off all contact.
She realized that the huge difference in circumstances and attitude of Quan's family was an insurmountable barrier. Thuong chose to stop to keep peace for her loved ones, instead of continuing a love plagued by prejudice.
On Quan's side, the shock of being broken up made him more harsh with his mother. Instead of following his mother's wishes, Quan affirmed that he would definitely never break up with Thuong.
He believes that his mother's excessive interference and imposition is the cause of the relationship breaking down. To prove that he is no longer dependent, Quan decided to move out to live independently.
However, Ms. Dung did not yield at all. With the aim of pushing her son into a dead end and forcing him to give up the idea of living separately, she decided to lock her son's entire bank account.
Strict prejudices and pressure from Ms. Dung created a major barrier, pushing the relationship between the two mothers and daughters into a tense situation.
