According to Forbes, Blackpink's debut song "Boombayah" is making a comeback on music charts thanks to a surprise appearance in Netflix's newly released "Wednesday 2".
Boombayah has climbed to No. 1 on the Global Viral chart of the Shazam platform. This list ranks the songs that are spreading and have the fastest growth rate of the week on social networking platforms, as well as online services.
In addition, after 9 years of release, "Boombayah" unexpectedly climbed to 5th place on the Shazam Global Top 200 chart, surpassing the previous record when the group's recent hit "Jump" reached 7th place, to become the song of a Kpop girl group with the highest ranking in Shazam history.
Blackpink's song also returned to 15th place on the Top K-Pop Songs chart of iTunes US.
On Spotify, "Boombayah" increased by more than 2.7 million streams in 1 week after "Wednesday 2" was released.
In the movie Wednesday 2, Blackpink is not the only artist to have a song chosen as the background music, Lady Gaga, Dean Martin, Foreigner also have songs appearing throughout the episodes of season 2.
However, Blackpink's "Boombayah" is creating the strongest effect on social media, because this song resounded in an extremely interesting and surprising scene.

That was in episode 6, when the best friend Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) and Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers) were transformed. A Wednesday that was once unusual and gloomy has now turned into a bright, open, and dynamic version.
The scene of Wednesday wearing heavy makeup, colorful, funny outfits and carelessly dancing from the dormitory to the nevermore Academy campus quickly caused a storm on social networks.
This vibrant scene lasts nearly 2 minutes, making it more than just a background music. Blackpink's song selection refers to the change from Wednesday Addams' "black" style to his "pink" style thanks to Enid Sinclair.
Music supervisor Jen Malone and Nicole Weisberg shared that "Boombayah" was specifically written into the script from the beginning.
"The producers have eyes on this song and praised them for understanding the importance of Blackpink and its meaning to the audience. Blackpink is one of the biggest touring artists, one of the top girl groups, Weisberg told Tudum.
Wednesday 2 is currently at the Top 1 of the global Netflix chart, promising to continue to boost the growth of songs appearing in the series.
