When mentioning Minh Quan, besides the songs associated with the 8X and 9X generations, the audience remembers him for his roles in Tao Quan, in which the most notable is the role of Thien Loi.
He was once dubbed the ugliest Thien Loi in Tao Quan because he always appeared with electric hair, a blackened face, and buck teeth. The male singer acted well with People's Artist Cong Ly, who played the role of Bac Dau.
This character made an impression when Bac Dau compared him to "eating papaya without a spoon", the way he prolonged the word "yes" in an angry way, the way he wiggled when walking, or the humorous name "baboon".
Sharing with Lao Dong, Minh Quan revealed that the nickname "baboon" was an impromptu nickname that People's Artist Cong Ly came up with on stage, not in the script.
However, thanks to that moment of improvisation, Minh Quan's character Thien Loi left a lasting impression and was remembered by the audience. The role of Bac Dau is also the character that Minh Quan likes the most in Tao Quan.
Talking about his beautiful memories in Tao Quan, Minh Quan said: "When filming Thien Loi, I can say I interacted with Bac Dau the most. We always bickered and teased each other on stage.
I still remember the backstage in 2013, which was also the first year I participated in Tao Quan. That night, for the first time, I wore Thien Loi's outfit, black makeup, and performed with many veteran artists. I was very nervous and worried that I would forget my lines. At that time, everyone gathered around to ask questions and give me advice on how to not be nervous on stage. That is the memory I remember the most."
The chance that brought Minh Quan to the stage of Gap nhau cuoi nam was in 2013, when People's Artist Xuan Bac suggested he try a role. He thought he would not be chosen because he had no acting experience.
The first time he stepped onto the stage, seeing the audience laughing loudly at his appearance, Minh Quan felt less nervous and more excited.
Since then, the male singer has become a familiar face, known to the audience as "The ugliest Thien Loi of Tao Quan".
However, Minh Quan did not think of becoming an actor. He has been associated with Tao Quan for many years and could not help but regret when the program was interrupted for a few years.
"I remember, Cong Ly was the one who "scold" me the most. In a place full of experienced artists, I was taught a lot. I learned from them not only about professional style but also life lessons. I really appreciate that," Minh Quan confided.
In the coming years, if he receives an invitation, Minh Quan is willing to return to the Tao Quan stage, because he always regrets and has special feelings for the program.
Minh Quan was born in 1980, is a singer familiar to audiences with songs such as "Materialistic Girls", "Even If There Are Mistakes", "Forever My Childhood", "Spring Song"...
In addition to singing, he is also a music producer and director of several music videos. At the age of 44, Minh Quan is still single, finding joy in work and spending time with his family.
