The incident occurred on the evening of July 3 at the metro station in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, South Korea. A resident witnessed Kim Sung Joon's behavior and reported it to the victim. When meeting the police, Kim Sung Joon denied all allegations. This MC only admitted his embarrassing behavior when the police found the photo still in his phone.
"I often do wrong things when I'm drunk. I sincerely apologize to the victim," Kim Sung Joon said.
Immediately after the incident, Kim Sung Joon submitted a resignation letter to SBS. Kim Sung Joon is considered a veteran in the profession and has hosted many programs. He hosted SBS's late night talk show from 1991 to 2017 and recently became an MC for radio talk shows.
Kim Sung Joon started working at SBS in 1991 and was a news production director. Before the incident, he was the main host of the radio program Kim Sung Joon's Current Observatory broadcast in the afternoon of weekdays.
Kim Sung Joon was also a professor of Journalism and Information at Hanuk University of Foreign Languages. In 2013, he also received the 40th Korean announcer award.
SBS later issued a notice saying that Kim Sung Joon had submitted a resignation letter. The station is considering whether to resolve this resignation request or not.
