Recently, the Aewol town office in Jeju city, Jeju province (Korea) responded to a complaint sent via the National Civil Complaints Portal. The office announced that the production company of the drama Delusion will be fined 1 million won for illegal littering.
The incident occurred while the film crew was filming on oreum hill in Jeju. Images posted on social media showed many bottles of water, plastic cups with photos of actor Kim Seon Ho and other types of waste being thrown at the filming location.
The Aewol Town Office determined that the film crew violated Article 8 of the Waste Management Law, and stated, "We are currently carrying out procedures to punish according to relevant laws".
Among the waste left behind were mini gas cylinders. However, because it was impossible to confirm whether the film crew used fire or not, the violation of the Forest Protection Law was not applied.
Jeju City has said that in the future, when it cooperates with film crews to film in national forest areas under the authority of the Korean Forestry Authority, it will increase thorough inspections to ensure that areas are restored after filming.
Previously, the production company Showbox had apologized for the illegal littering: "The filming ended late and due to the dark, we could not clean up the scene thoroughly. We have apologized to the local authorities and immediately cleaned up the remaining waste. From now on, we will ensure that the filming process is carried out accurately and very carefully."
Delusion is a mystery horror film, set in Gyeongseong in 2015, telling the story of painter Yoon Yi Ho (Kim Seon Ho) who was assigned to paint a portrait for the mysterious woman Song Jeong Hwa (Suzy).
Delusion is expected to air on the Disney+ global platform in 2026, a project marking the reunion between Suzy and Kim Seon Ho after 6 years, since the TV series Start-Up in 2020.
However, instead of the expectation of a broadcast, this project is attracting attention due to consecutive scandals.
Before being involved in a littering controversy, Delusion became a topic of discussion because the producer initially planned to make a movie, with an investment of up to 45 billion won (over 860 billion VND), considering the two actors Ryu Jun Yeol and Han So Hee to play the main roles.
However, the filming plan was canceled, due to the two artists being involved in a love scandal and announced their breakup just 2 weeks after publicly dating their relationship, in March 2024.
After that, Delusion changed production direction to a TV series, with the main roles transferred to Kim Seon Ho and Suzy.
However, in Korea, Kim Seon Ho is a controversial face because he was previously involved in a scandal related to his ex-girlfriend. Some viewers opposed Kim Seon Ho's co-starring with Suzy.
