Audiences send petition to ban Suga (BTS)

A petition was sent to KBS, calling for a ban on Suga (BTS) from appearing on airings for driving while intoxicated.

According to Allkpop, the petition titled "Request to limit Suga's appearance regarding fines for drunk driving" was posted on June 23.

The petition urged KBS to summon the Committee for evaluating the regulations on appearing on television to assess Suga's appearance status, citing the seriousness of his criminal acts and the impact on the public.

Suga was fined 15 million won through a summons in September 2024, after being caught driving an electric vehicle while intoxicated on August 6, 2024, during his military service as a community service employee.

At the time, his blood alcohol level was reported at 0.227%, much higher than the 0.08% of drivers whose driving licenses were revoked in Korea.

According to the law, with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.2% or more, the violator can be imprisoned from 2 to 5 years or fined from 10 to 20 million won.

The petitioner wrote: "Driving while intoxicated is a serious crime that can directly endanger others. As a public figure who has a significant influence on young people, Suga's continuous appearances on television can undermine public awareness of the seriousness of drunk driving.

The petition added that KBS did not act sooner, citing the ongoing investigation at the time.

However, the petitioner emphasized that Suga's fine was completed on September 27, 2024 and he was officially discharged from the army on June 21, 2025. Therefore, the petitioner urged the committee to take quick action: "It is necessary to take quick and fair measures to maintain public trust and maintain the responsibility of the broadcaster as a public organization".

KBS conducts an internal assessment process to determine whether individuals with illegal or unethical acts should be restricted from appearing on air.

Previously, actor Kwak Do Won and singer Kim Ho Joong were both banned from appearing on KBS's programs due to violations related to drunk driving.

Meanwhile, Suga completed his replacement military service on June 21. With all 7 members of BTS now completing their mandatory military service, fans are looking forward to their potential return as a full group.

After his discharge, Suga attracted attention when he donated 5 billion won to Severance Hospital, to establish a treatment center to support children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Min Yoongi Treatment Center is named after Sugas real name.

From March to June, Suga personally attended weekend classes, taught playing musical instruments and helped children at the center.

Just 1 day after Suga's actions, Severance Hospital continued to receive a donation of more than 200 million won, including many donations from the BTS fan community and Army.

However, due to the noise of drunk driving, some of the public still have a negative view of Suga, even though he has been doing charity work since his military discharge.
