“When the Phone Rings” is currently the most anticipated Korean drama by global audiences. Last week, the show climbed to the Top 2 on Netflix globally with 6.6 million views.
The film revolves around the arranged marriage between the youngest Blue House spokesperson Baek Sa Eon (Yoo Yeon Seok) and mute sign language interpreter Hong Hee Joo (Chae Soo Bin), combining romance with thriller and suspense.
In addition to airing on Korean terrestrial television station MBC every Friday and Saturday night, “When the Phone Rings” is also released simultaneously on the online platform Netflix.
However, last week, MBC disappointed fans when it suddenly announced the cancellation of episodes 5 and 6, just hours before the scheduled time.
The reason is because the station has to broadcast special news, related to the case of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declaring martial law.
After martial law was lifted, South Korea scheduled a vote in the National Assembly to impeach President Yoon, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday (December 7), the same time that episode 6 of “When the Phone Rings” was originally scheduled to air.
MBC canceled the broadcast of both episodes 5 and 6 on December 6-7 at the last minute, moving it to air on December 13-14.
But according to Korean media, the opposition party has announced that the second impeachment vote of President Yoon is scheduled for this Saturday, December 14. Therefore, it is very likely that episodes 5 and 6 of “When the Phone Rings” will be postponed again.
To the confusion of the audience, the MBC Drama account on X announced that the drama will “air this Friday, at 9:40 p.m.”
However, viewers still feel uncertain due to the current complicated political situation in Korea. Global fans of the drama once again called on MBC to let Netflix air all remaining episodes on the platform to avoid disruption.
