Does a degree matter?
Crowned Miss Vietnam at the age of 18 and became Miss Universe Vietnam after 10 years, the fact that Ky Duyen does not have a university degree has caused endless debate on social networks.
Many audiences are skeptical that Ky Duyen, who has not graduated from university, will find it difficult to inspire learning, and that her message about education lacks weight.
But some audiences also ask, without a degree, Ky Duyen is still rich and famous, so is a degree that important?
After a decade in showbiz, Ky Duyen is not only a reality TV star but also a famous face on the fashion catwalk.
She has often shown off her luxurious life, expensive designer wardrobe and lavish trips.
But along with Ky Duyen's glamorous appearance are also many scandals and noises about her private life and behavior.
Even at the time of participating in Miss Universe 2024, after 10 years in showbiz, Ky Duyen still caused controversy because of her statement "never finished reading a book" and her English ability was far behind many beauty queens.
Speaking with Lao Dong reporter, Associate Professor Dr. Le Huy Hoang - Deputy Director of the Department of Education (Central Propaganda Department) - affirmed that famous people can influence young people. Therefore, their statements should not come from an individual incident to generalize a general issue.
"Celebrities need to be very careful in their statements, always aiming for good and positive things in the community. Regarding the idea that one can be successful without studying, I think that those who succeed without studying are only a minority, isolated, and should not be encouraged, especially among young people.
Reality shows that people with qualifications and many contributions to society are all due to good education. The mistake of the above opinion is that from the isolated phenomenon of a few people, it denies the role of education and training, a field considered a "top national policy" in Vietnam and many countries in the world," Mr. Le Huy Hoang assessed.
Celebrities must spread goodness
As a beauty queen for 10 years and now with a second title, Ky Duyen needs to be aware of her social responsibility, be careful with every word, instead of innocently saying she has never read a whole book.
Talking to Lao Dong about the controversial aspects, Dr. Nguyen Tung Lam - Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Educational Psychology - gave his opinion: "A person's ability and qualifications must come from studying and working. Once having a title, representing a beauty contest, a beauty queen needs to be aware of her responsibilities."
Experts also affirm that each field has its own requirements regarding educational qualifications.
For a beauty queen, no matter what method she uses to study, how famous or rich she is, knowledge should still be put first.
Many beauty queens have inspired people to study, and have scored points with the public thanks to their good academic performance and their investment in studying at prestigious universities.
Misses with the influence of fame need to take social responsibility, spread good things to be worthy of the crown that has been awarded.
In recent years, beauty contests in Vietnam have increasingly placed importance on the education, qualifications, and intellectual beauty of contestants.
It is not difficult to see contestants with IELTS 7.0, IELTS 8.0, fluent in many languages, and a "meter-long" list of achievements in beauty contests.
Education experts say that although education is not mandatory, it is an important factor to help a beauty reach the crown.
Not to mention, Ky Duyen was not fair, did not face things directly, and tried to hide and cover up the fact that she had not graduated from university for many years.
Education experts affirm that, as an influential person, one cannot just think about joining the entertainment industry and making money, they need to bring spiritual and cognitive values so that their image is worthy of the audience's love.
