According to Box Office, "The soul of the spirit" was just released but earned more than 28 billion VND. At one point, the film rose to No. 1 on February 7 (the day of its release), surpassing strong opponents such as "The Four Guardians" by Tran Thanh and Thu Trang's "The Billion Dollar Kiss".
Currently, this work surpasses Tran Thanh's "quartet" about the number of tickets sold and revenue during the day due to the festival of Tet holiday.
"The spirit of the soul" brings a thrilling story, building a horror version imbued with the spirit of a familiar folk legend.
The main setting of the film is located in Cao Bang, recreating the majestic, vast beauty of the mountains and forests.
The film has a 2-region cast with some familiar names to VTV primetime audiences such as Hoang Kim Ngoc, Tuan Mo, and a new cast such as: Diem Trang, Phu Thinh, Dinh Khang.
The biggest difference between the film version and folk tales is the appearance of spiritual elements. The character of Magic King Lieu (Hoang Kim Ngoc) in the film plays an important role, being the only one to understand and overcome the power of the soul lamp.
The film does not have many blood scenes but still creates a feeling of horror, jumpstake scenes (sudden threats) are effectively installed, the sound used brings a certain effect.
However, "The spirit of the spirit" was still commented to be loose and illogical in the script. Many "suns" have been pointed out, many details are still left open, causing controversy in the film right when it was first released.
From the beginning of the film, the magician Lieu felt unusual after his mother (SYNI) picked up a strange light. Although it was unclear what the dark forces were motivated, Lieu still brought a rowing light home at midnight, and then his younger brother died tragically because he met the soul.
When confronted directly with the soul, Lieu lacked preparation, almost could not counter Sung's ghost. She performed all rituals alone and defended the worship area with just a sketchy trap.
The scene of Lieu going to the fields and warding off evil spirits residing in the village makes the audience think of the scene of the fields in "The tomb of the ghost". However, the costumes, items, and rituals in the movie are monotonous, not eloquence and horror.
Meanwhile, the main couple Thuong and Dinh (Phu Thinh) have not left an impression. Thuong had very few expressions, no tears when her husband kicked her out of the house, but she cried when she went to the ground.
Phu Thinh plays the patriarchal husband but hard, emotionless when he meets his wife and children again, scolds her children but "carrying" children to follow the stream to find his wife. In the segment of the soul, the actor did better when he portrayed the state of crazy character, losing humanity and sinister.
The director evokes many details but has not been thoroughly resolved, such as the origin of the lamp, the reason for the village to return to the village later than all the other soldiers, the characteristics of the different souls.
The "soul light" debuted at the time when the audience liked horror movies inspired by folklore. Earlier, "Ma Da", "Demon Crane" or "Cam" left a mark that used materials as folk legends, ancient stories. But the script is still the weakness of these films.
