The 98th Academy Awards ceremony took place on the morning of March 16 (Vietnam time). As usual, in addition to the Best Actor and Actress awards, the Best Supporting Actress award also attracted a lot of attention from many audiences, gathering bright faces.
Best Supporting Actress award belongs to Amy Madigan.
She excellently surpassed strong candidates such as Elle Fanning (Sentimental Value), Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas (Sentimental Value), Amy Madigan (Weapons), Wunmi Mosaku (Sinners), Teyana Taylor (One Battle after Another).
Amy Madigan entered this year's Oscar season with much attention from critics thanks to her role in "Weapons", a horror film by director Zach Cregger. The character Aunt Gladys played by her has a gloomy and scary color, contributing to creating a tense atmosphere throughout the work.
Before the Oscars, Madigan also impressed when she won the "Critics Choice Awards" and "Screen Actors Guild Awards" (SAG). With this victory, she set a new record for the longest time between two nominations before winning the golden statuette. Previously, she was nominated in the same category 40 years ago with the movie "Twice in a Lifetime" (1986).
In her acceptance speech, the actress shared emotionally but also humorously that the difference between the two nominations is that this time she has in her hands a "little golden boy".
Her image in Weapons with heavy makeup and large glasses also quickly became memes spreading online, even mentioned by MC Conan O'Brien in the opening of the ceremony.
Closing the speech, Madigan thanked her family, especially her husband, actor Ed Harris, who has accompanied her throughout the long journey.
“Finally, I want to thank my beautiful daughter, Lily, her husband Sean. And of course all the dogs. But most importantly, my beloved Ed.
You have been by my side for a long time. A really long time. And all of this would mean nothing if you weren't by my side," she expressed.
Despite having a successful awards season with nominations at the "Golden Globe Awards" and "BAFTA Awards", Amy Madigan's victory is still considered quite close, as Wunmi Mosaku is considered a formidable competitor.
