Artist Thanh Ngoan retired in 2022, so many people were surprised when she continued to work and pursue her passion. She has been involved in Cheo for more than 40 years, holding the position of Director of the Vietnam Cheo Theater from 2012 to 2022.
becoming a director for the second time, People's Artist Thanh Ngoan confided: "When I was a state manager, there were separate mechanisms and policies that helped me gain more experience. Now that I continue to be the Director of the Vietnam Traditional Performing Arts Conservation Center, I feel somewhat more comfortable. I and other artists who are still passionate and can help preserve heritage with their knowledge and experience will still contribute.
Passion motivated me to continue working, how to preserve the traditional beauty of the nation. I and the artists in the center are all past retirement age and no longer work in state agencies. We work together and work with young people to have abundant resources to develop traditional performing arts".

People's Artist Thanh Ngoan's real name is Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoan, born in 1966, in Thai Binh. The female artist's family lives in the cradle of Cheo art with many brothers, aunt and uncle participating in artistic work.
She has known how to sing Cheo since she was 7-8 years old, then passed the entrance exam to the Vietnam Cheo Theater and studied away from her family in Hanoi. Up to now, People's Artist Thanh Ngoan has been in this field for more than 40 years, with many roles that have left an impression on the audience such as the role of Hong Chau restaurant owner in the play "Ho Xuan Huong", the role of Hoan Thu in the play "Thuy Kieu"...
Throughout his career, People's Artist Thanh Ngoan won many major awards such as the Gold Medal "National Cheo Voice" in 1992, the Gold Medal "National Professional Stage Festival" in 1995, the Red Star award of the Vietnam Youth Union.
