On November 26, Korean media reported that Warner Chappell Music (WCM) - a music publishing company under Warner Music Group, signed a global management agreement with Kpop idol Rose (Blackpink).
The deal comes at a pivotal time for Rose, who recently collaborated with pop star Bruno Mars on the single “APT.”.
The song is currently at the top of the two global Billboard charts - Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. US for 5 consecutive weeks. At the same time, it helps Rose become the first female Kpop solo artist to enter the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100.
Ryan Press, President of WCM North America, praised Rose's groundbreaking achievements: “Rose deserves this moment and it is an honor to officially welcome her to our Warner Chappell family.
As she broke record after record, she single-handedly redefined the K-pop genre while paving the way for a new era of cross-cultural expression.
We have started working with our partners at Atlantic to support Rose’s bold vision and explore new creative opportunities for her songs. Above all, we can’t wait to see where her music takes us next.”
With the latest management deal, Rose will be able to retain creative control and full ownership of her songs. The singer will focus on writing music, while WCM manages the songwriting rights, facilitates licensing for various uses, and collects royalties for Rose's work.
Previously, Rose signed a contract with Warner Music Group's Atlantic Records label in late September, to collaborate on producing and releasing her music, as well as benefit from the label in marketing, promotion and music distribution.
In addition, it is reported that Rose has established a personal company called “Dream APT Publishing LLC” under her real name Park Chae Young in the US, to directly manage the publishing rights for her songs. The company name Dream APT Publishing appeared on the previously released CD “APT.”
Thus, Rose signed a contract with 3 companies The Black Label (of producer Teddy), Atlantic Records, Warner Chappell Music and established her own company Dream APT Publishing LLC.
Rose is the last member of Blackpink to establish her own company (Jennie - ODDATELIER, Lisa - LLOUD, Jisoo - BLISSOO). However, Rose's company is currently known for its main function of music publishing, not production or creation.
On the evening of November 25, Rose announced the list of 12 songs that will be released in her solo album “rosie” on December 6, including “Number one girl”, “3 AM”, “Two years”, “Toxic till the end”, “Drinks or coffee”, “APT.”, “Gameboy”, Stay a little longer”, “Not the same”, “Call it the end”, “Too bad for us”, “Dance all night”.
