"APT." is the pre-release single for Rose's official comeback, with her first full-length album “Rosie” set to drop on December 6.
The MV "APT." posted on YouTube quickly attracted great attention. The Blackpink member surprised everyone by bringing a pop-punk song, a genre that Rose had never performed before.
Revealing to Vogue, Rose said that she and Bruno Mars directly participated in composing this song, inspired by a widely known drinking game in Korea called “Apartment - 아파트 (apateu)”.
“Apartment is a game I really like. It’s simple, fun, and perfect for brightening up the mood. One day, in the studio, I taught the staff how to play it. I started writing the song when I saw everyone having fun playing. Then Bruno Mars joined in and the song was finished,” Rose shared.
Rose and Bruno agreed to keep the Korean pronunciation of “APT.” as a way to honor their roots.
"APT." has a cheerful, energetic melody. In the MV, the two artists show a fun, lovely interaction. The moment Rose kisses Bruno Mars on the cheek went viral on social media.
However, the MV “APT.” encountered problems right after its release. In the first 50 minutes, the MV only showed 1 view on YouTube, possibly because the platform's counter was broken due to the large number of views.
After 2 hours, the MV “APT.” surpassed 2 million views.
The song’s debut performance in the Korean market was also very positive. In the first hour, “APT.” entered many music charts such as Melon Top 100 at 64th place, Genie at 29th place, and Bugs at 6th place. For an English song, this is a good start.
