Sony leaves open the possibility of Tom Holland continuing to play Spider-Man

After the record success of the blockbuster "Spider-Man: Brand New Day", Sony said it still leaves open the possibility that Tom Holland will continue to take on the role of Spider-Man.

The unexpected success of "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" is opening up many expectations for the future of the Spider-Man brand on the big screen. After the film broke a series of box office records in the first weekend of release, Sony Pictures Chairman Tom Rothman has made remarkable shares about Tom Holland's ability to continue playing the role of Peter Parker in subsequent projects.

According to data released by the publisher, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" grossed about 360 million USD in the North American market and 927 million USD globally after its release weekend. This achievement helped the film surpass the milestone previously held by "Avengers: Endgame", becoming the highest-grossing domestic opening film in history.

The impressive result immediately raised questions about the future of Tom Holland - a face that has been associated with Spider-Man for nearly a decade and contributed to making this character one of the most successful symbols of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Answering about the possibility of Tom Holland continuing to take on the role after the success of "Spider-Man: Brand New Day", Sony leaders said that the company has not yet made a final decision.

According to him, in the past nearly two years, the entire focus of the crew has been on completing and releasing the new film, so the plan for the next stage is still being considered. However, he affirmed that Sony wishes to continue cooperating with Tom Holland if the actor is still willing to accompany the brand.

These shares appeared just days after Tom Holland first confirmed that the production team had orientations for the future transfer of Spider-Man roles.

The actor said that the idea of a successor was built many years ago, although the development process will certainly change. According to Holland, what makes him most excited is not only continuing to transform into Peter Parker, but also contributing to opening a new chapter for the brand.

The above information quickly sparked many speculations about Miles Morales possibly being the next name to wear Spider-Man costumes in the role-playing version.

In the original Marvel comic, Miles Morales is the successor to Peter Parker in another universe and has become one of the most loved Spider-Mans. This character is also the center of the "Spider-Verse" animated series, in which "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.

In fact, Tom Holland has repeatedly expressed his desire to see Miles Morales appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He once shared his hope of being able to accompany and support the young actor to take on this role, just like how Robert Downey Jr. once guided him in the early days of participating in "Spider-Man: Homecoming".

However, that does not mean that Tom Holland will soon leave the role that made his name. The 30-year-old actor affirmed that he still wants to continue to be associated with Peter Parker as long as he can bring new stories that are attractive enough for the audience.

Not only aiming for the next generation of Spider-Man, Tom Holland also expressed his desire for Sony to continue expanding "Spider-Man's multiverse". According to him, the fact that many versions of Spider-Man coexist on screen is one of the most attractive points of the brand in recent years.

This means that it is likely that audiences will continue to meet Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in private projects or films gathering many generations of Spider-Man, after the success of "Spider-Man: No Way Home".

Currently, Sony Pictures has not announced specific plans for the next film. However, with opening revenue far exceeding expectations and Tom Holland's appeal showing no signs of cooling down, the future of the Spider-Man franchise is assessed to still have much room to expand further.
