The overlapping schedule between the two biggest blockbusters of the year pushed Tom Holland into a deadlock. However, instead of turning into a media crisis, the scheduled collaboration between Sony and director Christopher Nolan unintentionally became the "savior" to bring "Spider-Man" out of Marvel's filmmaking tactic.
Recently, actor Tom Holland shared in GQ magazine about the dramatic behind-the-scenes behind two blockbuster film projects: Christopher Nolan's epic masterpiece "The Odyssey" and his own movie about "Spider-Man" No. 4 named "Spider-Man: Brand New Day".
It all started when Tom Holland received an invitation from genius director Christopher Nolan to play Telemachus in "The Odyssey". A great opportunity opened up but also came with a significant trouble: the initial filming schedule of this project coincided perfectly with the start date of "Spider-Man 4".

Faced with a difficult problem, Tom Holland decided not to give up. He chose to face it directly when he picked up the phone to call Tom Rothman - Chairman of Sony Pictures to ask to postpone the filming schedule of one of the most expensive brands in the studio's history. Tom Holland recalled that Christopher Nolan's absolute prestige was the only key to helping this already very "difficult" negotiation reach a smooth ending.
I think the reason Sony happily postponed the schedule is because Chris is famous for his punctuality. Everyone knows that his film will not be prolonged indefinitely and Sony will not worry about losing'Spider-Man' for 2 years," Tom Holland shared. Reality has proven that belief is completely grounded when "The Odyssey" not only wrapped up on schedule but also 9 days earlier than expected.
Although the schedule postponement once worried Sony executives, Tom Holland affirmed that this 6-month delay period was the "savior" for the new "Spider-Man" film, helping the crew escape the habit of working impulsively in an industrial style.
Not only stopping at optimizing time, Christopher Nolan's serious experience on set completely changed the professional thinking of the star born in 1996. Witnessing the surprisingly thorough preparation of the British director, Tom Holland decided to directly apply this spirit to the Marvel film crew when he returned.

Chris's level of preparation is completely different from anything I have ever seen before," Holland confided. Thanks to that costly lesson, he frankly made a tough request to the producers: "We will not go to the studio and then both act and find directions for the scene. We need to know clearly why we made this film, beyond the commercial reason that this is'Spider-Man 4' and the film will definitely make a lot of money.
This serious filmmaking thinking immediately received great support from director Destin Daniel Cretton and veteran producers such as Amy Pascal and Rachel O'Connor.
After all the behind-the-scenes upheavals, this summer will be the most explosive milestone in Tom Holland's career when both blockbusters are released closely together in global theaters: "The Odyssey" will be released on July 17 and just 2 weeks later, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" will officially premiere on July 31.
