The 37th Tokyo International Film Festival has officially closed, and announced the award-winning films in the main categories. As two excellent films representing China competing for awards this year, “Little Me” and “Kieu Nghien’s Confessions” unexpectedly received opposite results.
“I am small” starring Jackson Yee, Lin Xiaojie, Jiang Qinqin, and Zhou Yutong won the “Audience Choice” award in the main competition category of the film festival. The film also received an extremely high rating of 3/4 points.
On the contrary, the film that received high expectations and had a starting score of 4.2 on Filmarks, "Kieu Nghien's Confessions", ended up with only 1.9/4 points, the lowest rating and missed all award categories.
Although it did not affect the careers and reputation of the main actors such as Trieu Le Dinh and Tan Chi Loi too much, many audiences still expressed regret for the efforts and talents of the two Chinese beauties.
It is not surprising that “Kieu Nghien’s Confessions” did not receive high ratings from international judges. Although it features two famous actors, the film’s script is not very original and does not contain many meaningful and humane messages.
The acting of Trieu Le Dinh and Tan Chi Loi still received mixed opinions despite their good chemistry. In particular, many viewers believe that the acting ability of the beauty named Trieu has not been able to make an impression on the big screen. Perhaps Trieu Le Dinh still needs more time to improve her acting as well as bring a more complete work.
The actress still has the upcoming movie “Sunflower” about to hit theaters. This is the movie that marks the reunion after many years of Trieu Le Dinh and director Phung Tieu Cuong – the first person to see her potential and lead her into showbiz. The movie promises to be a formidable competitor at the box office in 2025.
As for the film “Little Me”, this is the work that premiered for the first time at this year’s Tokyo International Film Festival. Before that, the film only released the poster as well as revealed the main content.
The film tells the story of Liu Chunhua, a teenager who unfortunately suffered from cerebral palsy and his courageous process of breaking the chains of both body and mind to find his life's trajectory.
In the international version poster released this time, the image taken from behind of the disabled teenager persistently climbing the stairs, stepping out of the darkness, towards the sunlight has impressed many audiences as well as judges and film critics.
The "Audience Choice" award is a worthy reward for the efforts of the crew and cast of "I'm Little".
